JULY 6, 1936 - APRIL 8, 2025
Art passed away on April 8, 2025 in Toronto at the age of 88. Always known to be optimistic and appreciative, Art often said that he’s had “a great life!”. He will be deeply missed.
Art was predeceased by his loving wife Joan (née Plummer) of 63 years, his parents Agnes and Joseph, brother Gordon, sister-in-law Diane, brother-in-law Bob Jagger, nephew David Jagger, brother-in-law Wes Plummer, and sister-in-law Marion Mitchell.
Art is survived by his three sons, Geoff (Judy), Bob (Paule), and Glen (Sonya); his four grandchildren, Sean, Jenna (John), Jacob, and Tyler; his sister Marion Jagger; nephews Brad and Robin (Giesela); nieces Pam Jagger (Adam) and Trish Jagger (Flavio), and brother-in-law Fred Mitchell.
Born in Montreal, Art was raised there until the age of 11 when he and his family then moved to Winnipeg. One of his fondest childhood memories was vacationing at Lac Manitou (Quebec) from the age of two - a cherished tradition that continued to the age of 88. Following high school and several months of working in the Arctic on the DEW Line, Art moved back to Montreal where he married Joan and had two sons. Guided by his career, the family moved to Ottawa, where they had their third son. Eventually they moved to Toronto, the city they would call home for the next 55 years.
Art’s career was an illustrious 42 years in retail, beginning at Morgan’s, which was later bought by The Hudson’s Bay Company. He started as an assistant buyer for shoes, progressed to become a buyer of millinery, and eventually held roles in management - locally and regionally. Art enjoyed retirement life with Joan in Stouffville where they settled into the wonderful community of Ballantrae. They enjoyed endless rounds of golf, tennis, pickleball, snooker, dinner parties, and priceless sunsets. Above all was family, which meant everything to Art. He savoured every moment regardless of distance - always interested in what everyone was up to, and spending quality time together.
The family is very grateful for the welcoming and caring staff at Delmanor Northtown (Art’s final home), as well as the medical community at Markham-Stouffville and Sunnybrook Hospitals.
