(nee Bousfield) January 9, 1928 - May 9, 2013
With great sadness, the family of Audrey Brown announces her quiet passing in the early morning of May 9, 2013, as the result of complications from congestive heart failure. Beautiful and adored wife for 61 years of Charles, cherished mother of Michael, Alexandra Brown and her husband Ron Estey, and Laurel Brown and her husband Douglas Ince. Treasured grandmother of Matthew and Garrett Brown, and Erin Estey. Forever mother-in-law of Cathy Brown and Sandy Logie. Predeceased by her parents Reginald and Marjorie Bousfield, dearest sister Diane Howie and brother-in-law Ralph Howie, and sisters-in-law Barbara Bousfield and Joyce Burton-Bousfield. Loving sister and devoted friend to brothers Edward, John (Morleen), and David (Jean) Bousfield, and wonderful aunt and cousin to a large extended family.
Audrey was born in Vancouver 85 years ago and travelled with her parents and ever-growing nest of siblings across Canada while her father sought work in various locations during the Depression, eventually settling in Toronto and attending Riverdale C.I. and Lawrence Park C.I. From age five, Audrey declared she would be a teacher, and she became ''a very happy teacher'', loving and beloved by legions of primary-aged children over many decades at Humber Valley P.S. , John Ross Robertson P.S., and her beloved Branksome Hall. She viewed teaching as a gift, and her students viewed her the same way.
Audrey's elegance, graciousness, and deep and genuine caring of those around her were well-known to all. If she saw a need, she sought to fulfill it. Her devotion as a volunteer to the McMichael Art Gallery, for more than 25 years, held a special place in her heart. Audrey enjoyed years of many warm friendships at Thornhill Golf and Country Club, where she was a proud member of the Ladies' Valley Course, and at Charles' and her later home at Atrium II in North York.
Of special mention are the many dear friends and friendships forged over decades at the family home on Strathallan Blvd. in Toronto, and their wonderful trips with beloved travelling companions to Florida, Hilton Head and the U.K. The family also wishes to acknowledge the dedication and loving care of Audrey's ''health team'', including Dr. Mary Rubino-Sullivan, Dr. Philip Myron, nurse Darlene Roth, special friend Liza Robertson, and the many wonderful caregivers at Sunnybrook Hospital and North York General Hospital.
Wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend - we were so lucky to have your great spirit and smile in our lives and we will miss you dearly.
