Ed was born in Kingston, Ontario on November 16, 1960, and passed away suddenly in Brantford, Ontario on August 20, 2020, at the age of 59. Predeceased by his beloved daughter Sarah, and parents Lore and Boyd Garland, Ed leaves to mourn his ex-wife, Loraine, with whom he remained close, and two daughters, Malyn and Carolyn (Arturo). He is also survived by his sisters Jessie, Veronica (Jacques), Valerie (Dean), and brother Eric (Agnieszka) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was brought up in Ontario until the family moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1979. After receiving his business degree from the University of Regina, Ed and Loraine married and Ed began working for the CIBC where his role took the family to many Saskatchewan communities including—Saskatoon, North Battleford, Regina, Weyburn, Maple Creek, Humboldt, Meadow Lake, Redvers—before moving to Winnipeg in 2000. After leaving the bank Ed worked in Arviat and Iqualuit, before moving back to Ontario.
Ed loved his girls above all, and especially enjoyed family game nights and going on camping trips. The girls enjoyed his stories and playfulness, as well as his advice and lively debates as they grew older. Ed watched with pride as the girls achieved each milestone.
Music was one of Ed’s greatest pleasures and he was a skilled trumpet player. Having studied under Ellis Mclintock in Thornhilll, Ontario, Ed developed a wonderful set of chops. He was especially fond of the music of the big band era, and he enjoyed all the crooners. Ed’s whistle would always accompany him as he went about the tasks at hand, whether building a fence, doing household chores, or cutting and caring for his lawn. He loved spending time with family and friends around a campfire. His soft heart saw him bring home several abandoned dogs, which of course became family members. He had a phenomenal memory for jokes and stories and seemed to have one for any situation. Good times were had when Ed was around, but he was also present with a listening ear and a kind and generous heart.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place at a later date.

Your sun will never set again, and your moon will wane no more; the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your days of sorrow will end.
