Elizabeth was born in Fertőszentmiklós, Hungary March 28, 1945 the third of four children born to Mihály and Veronika (Ősze).
Elizabeth was the beloved wife of Mihály (Mike) Koszo, devoted mother of Peter (Karen “Kari”) and Andrea (Zoltan Horcsok), sister-in-law of Irene and cherished grandmother of Alexa, Matthew, and Jacob. She is also survived by her siblings Tony, Clara (Baricza) and Rita, with whom she shared a remarkable beginning to their years in Canada. Also her nieces Monica, Christine (Attila Antal, Titusz), Michelle, Paula and Angéla.
During the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, while Elizabeth was still a young girl, her parents made the courageous decision to flee communist Hungary with their children. Leaving behind their homeland and much of what they knew, they set out in search of freedom and a new beginning, eventually settling in Canada.
Although Elizabeth left Hungary at the age of 11, Hungary never left her. Its traditions, food, language, faith and deep sense of family remained part of the home she created in Canada and were lovingly passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Together, Elizabeth and Mike embraced the opportunities of their new country. As entrepreneurs, they built and operated businesses over the years while raising their children. Elizabeth had a tremendous work ethic and seemingly endless energy, balancing the demands of business and home with determination and resourcefulness.
Family was at the centre of Elizabeth’s world. She was remarkably selfless and generous and rarely said no to anyone who needed her. No favour seemed too large and no task too difficult. She simply found a way to help, without fuss or expectation, and always with grace and humility. She was an exceptional light of strength, goodness, kindness, caring and love.
A wonderful cook, Elizabeth kept her Hungarian heritage alive through the meals, holidays and celebrations that brought everyone together. Her Roman Catholic faith was a cornerstone of her life, reflected not only in her commitment to the Church, but in the way she treated others, with kindness, compassion and quiet strength. Elizabeth’s was a life shaped by courage, faith and hard work, but defined above all by her love of family. From a young girl brought to Canada in search of a better future, she became a wife, mother and grandmother who gave generously of herself and never forgot where she came from.
She leaves behind a family strengthened by her example, traditions that will continue, and a legacy of love that will endure for generations.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be held at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge Street in North York, on Monday September 28, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00 pm-8:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place the following day, Tuesday September 29, 2026 at St.Elizabeth of Hungary Church 432 Sheppard Avenue East in North York. Reception will follow Mass. Burial will be held at York Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be considered in Elizabeth's memory to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
