On May 26th, 2026, surrounded by her family, Geraldine passed away after a brief illness. Gerrie was predeceased by her loving husband of 58 years, Ronald William Cumming, and her parents Howard and Dora Bowen.
Wonderful and loving mother to Jon (Darlene Hareguy) and Greg (Bianca Marcus). She will also be missed by her dear friend Gena Shibley and her family.
Born in Burlington, Ontario, she moved to Toronto to study and graduate in music from Victoria College at the University of Toronto. An accomplished piano player, she tutored and accompanied both her sons. After graduation she taught and then became a stay-at-home mother after her sons were born. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed gardening, travelling, classical music and opera, as well as art. She loved to talk about politics, books and was always up to date with current events. She was fiercely independent and determined to live at home as she aged but always enjoyed visits from her family.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service.
If desired, a donation in Geraldine’s memory may be made to North York General Hospital, Canadian Opera Company or Toronto Symphony Orchestra, or a food bank of your choice.
