With profound sadness we announce the passing of Helen Yat Ling Cheung at Gibson Long Term Care Residence on November 6, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 102. Helen will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, a great grandmother who was devoted to her family and community.
Helen grew up in Macau where she was a teacher for over 30 years. She taught various subjects but she had a passion for the Arts. She put on many wonderful musicals and drama performances to showcase her students' talents. She was well respected and when her students travelled to Toronto, they would often visit her to reminisce about the good old days. After the passing of her husband, Helen moved to Hong Kong to be with her children and grandchildren, she continued to work until she moved to Toronto in the 90s. Her cheerful nature made it easy for her to make new friends. She was a dedicated volunteer at Carefirst Senior Day Care Center where her love of the arts was once again, illustrated. Through singing and dancing, she brought fun and joy to the 'elderly' seniors.
The family would like to express appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Gibson LTC Residence, where Helen was well cared for in the last five years.
Visitation and funeral service will be held on November 25, 2023 at 10:30 AM in the Kane-Jerret chapel 6191 Yonge Street, North York. Luncheon will follow after cremation ceremony at Forest Lawn Mausoleum.
