Inese passed peacefully on August 31, 2026, at Kristus Darzs Latvian Home.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (partner David), and her grandchild, Hailey/Pace (partner Mies). She is also survived by her sister, Gunta (husband Norberts) and their children, Amanda, Elviga, and Armands.
Inese is pre-deceased by her parents, Alise and Arturs Upitis, her brother, Ojars and her husband, Ilmars, whom she met in Canada.
Inese was born in Saldus, Latvia and lived in the Veveri estate in Barbele, in the Bauska region of Latvia, with her family until WWII.
At the age of 17, she was the first of her family to emigrate to Canada. Inese was in this sense, the bridge to the free world. Our family is forever grateful for her courage and conviction to travel to a strange land and create the opportunity to live in a free, democratic Canada.
