I had the privilege of knowing Ivan for more than 20 years. I was always humbled by his intelligence, knowledge, and good sense of humor. His willingness to help and mentor others was without limit.

Ivan, you will be missed.

I was both shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Ivan. My heartfelt condolences go out to his spouse, Julia Kim, as well as to the rest of his extended family. 

Ivan was someone others could always turn to for guidance, and I personally did so on many occasions in the last few years. His patience, practical insights and candor demeanor will be greatly missed by many of us, his former colleagues. I will remain forever grateful for the many enriching conversations I had with Ivan over the past few years. 

His legacy is one of professionalism, friendship, and dedication. May his soul rest in perfect peace.

People say it’s hard to make lasting friendships in your 40s and 50s, but that was not our experience. He was not only a dear friend to me, but also like an elder brother. His guidance and lessons have shaped me greatly and will remain with me throughout my life. He was a wonderful person and an exceptional mentor. He will be truly missed.

Ivan was one of my closest friends from our undergrad days in Engineering Science. We were in a small class of about ten in the nuclear and thermal power option, so we spent a lot of time together. During some especially boring lectures, I’d try to come up with obscure Star Trek trivia to stump him, but I never succeeded.

We also spent many long evenings working through problem sets, and I always appreciated his intelligence and good nature as we struggled through them together, with his enthusiastic exclamations of "Genius!" whenever we made a breakthrough. My deepest condolences to Ivan’s family. I will miss my dear friend.

We will forever miss Ivan's beautiful smile, his quirky giggle, and his quiet caring way. He was the sweetest gentleman and a truly loving husband to Julia. And he made a great orange cake!

I’m really going to miss you.
You were a great man. Kind, thoughtful, and someone I always respected.

You had an incredible sense of humor and a laugh I’ll never forget. I’ll always remember our family golf games, fishing trips, and holidays together.
