October 17, 1924 – December 11, 2011
Ivo passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 11th, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was the devoted and beloved husband of Dina, with whom he shared his life for 55 years. A loving father to Mara and Marzia and a warm and caring Nonno to David and Kyle and father-in-law to Paul Nixon. Pre-deceased many years by his parents, Emilia and Angelo, his sister Livia and his brothers, Francesco and Nello, Survived by nephews and nieces in Canada and Italy.
Ivo came to Canada in 1950 from Azzano Decimo, Pordenone, Italy. He had minimal formal education; however, he read extensively and would often quote us passages from Dante’s Divine Comedy – one of his cherished books. He believed strongly in the value of higher education and together with Dina ensured that his daughters were able to attend university.
Ivo worked hard for most of his life and seemed to be always at his job or working continually around our home in Oakville. Nevertheless, there were always conversations at the dinner table about politics, history and our experiences and how to draw lessons of life. Despite a long and difficult experience with depression, he managed a sense of humour which was very endearing. A principled, honest and good man, he will be missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held at the Jerrett Funeral Home, 6191 Yonge St. (south of Steeles), North York, ON, M2M 4K4, 416-223-6050, on Wednesday December 14, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Chapel service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 8361 Yonge Street. In lieu of flowers, the family request that those who wish to do so, make a donation to Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation directed to Child and Teen Mental Health.
