Jeong Yeon Chun, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on October 18, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born on July 1, 1936, in Chungcheongnamdo, Nonsan-si, Ganggyeong-eup, South Korea, he lived his life in service to God and his family. He is predeceased by his father Yong Gi Chun and his mother Yeo Sook Bang.
Jeong Yeon was a dedicated teacher in Korea who felt strongly about the importance of education. In order to provide his daughters with an education that would not be readily available in post-war Korea, he moved his family to Canada in 1974. In Canada, he operated a small business, working 15 hours a day, putting his daughters through university. In retirement, he fully enjoyed his free time, travelling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was active and made the most of each day, with the daily highlight being a long walk with his wife. Serving his church community was equally important and he lived each day humbly, in thanks to God for the many blessings he received.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cheong Ja (Kang), their four daughters, their daughters’ spouses and their 7 grandchildren: Andrea and Don Ham (Jacob and Hannah Choi(spouse), Matthew), Kooyeon and William Ollerhead (Elliott, Cameron), Seonwha and Robert Groh (Sarah, Ellen) and Judy and Samuel Cave (Millie).
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 11:30AM at Toronto Yumkwang Presbyterian Church in Markham, Ontario.
