1925-2016
The exceptional life of Jack Cooper ended peacefully on Jan. 20, 2016 at the age of 90. Born in Toronto, the only son of Ernie & Elizabeth (Thomson) Cooper, he met and fell in love with Hannah Nancy Miller whom he married in 1944.
Proud member of the Toronto Scottish regiment until the war’s end, Jack began his distinguished career in 1950 with the Toronto Fire Department, until he retired in 1984 at the rank of Captain and master chef!
Jack was a devoted father to John(Tammy), Jean (Gerry). His greatest joy was being Papa to Connor, Cassidy Cooper, Ian (Jessica) & Ryan Troy. Jack and his fellow firefighters began the Fire Fighters Club in Markham, where he helped organize dances and social events for firefighters, & weddings for 100’s of brides in the 1970’s & 80’s. Retirement led Jack to continue to organize social events for the Gazebo of Thornhill and in Pompano Beach Florida.
The family would like to thank the great staff at Sunnybrook Veterans Residence LSSE. We would also like to thank Dr. Gladstone Sr. at North York G.H. whose unparalleled skill gave us 20 additional years with our father. Special thanks to Valerie Grant from Seniors for Seniors who gave Jack such loving care upon her visits.
His family will hold a Memorial gathering in the spring.
Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society would be greatly appreciated.
