It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Katherine Sarita “Kathy” Lang, beloved daughter of Carole and the late Jerry Lang.
Kathy, sister of Margaret (Kevin Tucker), Jeff (Sonya), Rob (Kim), Norm, and Barb (Mark Robinson). She will be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews Andrew (Kristin), Matthew, Greg, Brendan, David, Sarah, Ben, Colleen, and Lucy, and her great-nieces and great-nephews Kalia, Samantha, Johnny, and Amelia.
Kathy grew up in Toronto and attended Lewis S. Beattie Vocational School. She proudly worked as a clerk at the Canadian Forces College and approached life with positivity and determination.
Kathy had many interests, including clowning, miniatures, steel band, the Bliss Band, Mirvish productions, and YMCA Geneva Park.
She was a dedicated volunteer with the March of Dimes and the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Kathy was a woman of faith who enjoyed prayer and loved singing.
Kathy received a kidney transplant through the organ donor program and enjoyed the benefits of her donated kidney until 2023, when she returned to dialysis at St. Michael’s Hospital. Despite the challenges she faced with her health, Kathy maintained a positive outlook and an encouraging spirit. The incredible staff, volunteers, and patients at the Hemodialysis Unit became her home away from home. We are deeply grateful for the wonderful care she received.
Kathy later made her home at the Gibson Long-Term Care Home, where she served as president of the Residents’ Council. She enjoyed being involved in many activities and always made others feel welcome. The First Floor Team became her family, and we are so grateful to the special staff who made the Gibson her home. They cared for her with dignity and opened their hearts to her, which she gave back in abundance.
Kathy shared a special bond with her parents, Jerry and Carole, and many of her interests, her volunteering spirit and happiest memories began with them as she was growing up. She will always be grateful to her Dad, Jerry, for donating his kidney to her, sadly it was not a success but Kathy always knew she had unwavering support and encouragement from her parents. When Carole moved to the Gibson LTC, Kathy became a fierce advocate for her mother, always looking out for her well-being and ensuring her voice was heard. The love and devotion Kathy showed her mother were a testament to the strength of their relationship.
Through her many telephone calls, Kathy created an incredible network of friends and family. She was always interested in hearing the latest news and keeping up with what was happening in everyone's lives. She never allowed her limitations to prevent her from building and maintaining strong relationships.
We will miss her calls!
Kathy will be remembered for her positive attitude, her resilience and her dedication to advocating for herself and others. Even while facing significant health challenges, she continued to encourage others, welcome new faces, and participate wholeheartedly in the activities she loved.
Her life was a testament to the importance of community, friendship, family, faith, and maintaining a positive outlook through difficult times.
Thank you to all the PSWs, wheeltrans drivers, porters, chaplains, nurses, doctors, volunteers and friends that supported Kathy through the years.
Kathy will be remembered for her faith, resilience, generosity, and unwavering positive spirit!
