She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings – Chris, Natta, Mary, and Christina, Helena and Johnny; she is survived by her sister Frances. She will be fondly missed by her nieces, nephews and extended family.
Lannie attended St. Paul’s Basilica and St. Paul’s Catholic School near Queen and Power. As a young adult she worked at the family restaurant, “You Need a Lunch”, located at Queen and Mutual. She attended Western Technical Commercial and upon completion of business school she worked at American Optical Co. and then General Electric.
She met her future husband, Earnest John Lynch, on the tennis court. Born in Bristol England, he came to Canada in 1947 in response to the Canadian Government’s initiative to establish an aerospace industry. They were married on July 30, 1949, at St. John’s Road Baptist Church.
She raised five children: Maureen (Don), Robert (Laura), Charlotte, Kathy (Gordon) and Natalie (Craig). Lived for more than 50 years in Thornhill, and attended St. Pascal Baylon, St. Gabriel’s and St. Joseph’s Morrow Park Catholic churches during that time.
Lannie was blessed with five grandchildren: Christian (Guin), Christopher (Jessica), Bronwyn, Sebastian (Emmie) and Travis (Nadine), and then again, doubly-blessed, to have lived long enough to see the birth of her great-grandchildren: Florian, Alexandra, Freyja, Emily, Cate and James.
Lannie was active in many sports, including tennis, horseback riding, swimming, badminton, and figure skating. Her volunteer work included being treasurer for the local badminton club, and a school and church volunteer. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, embroidery, playing the piano, oil painting, travelling, gardening, baking, going to garage sales, and visiting any place with water.
Her hallmark was baking and entertaining. She worked extremely hard over the years in her role as mother, wife and hostess. Remaining independent, she lived in her home into her early nineties. She empathized and showed genuine concern for those who worked hard, especially those who served others.
Lannie had a beautiful smile, a playful sense of humour and greatly enjoyed any opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved going to church, lighting candles, praying the rosary and had a spiritual fondness for St. Anthony.
In recent years, she resided at Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence. It is with gratitude that our family acknowledges the respect and outstanding care she received while living there, especially during the pandemic and during her time in palliative care. Gratitude is also extended to the Michael Garron Hospital medical team and to the private PSW’s hired through Bayshore.
We thank everyone who has supported us during this difficult time with prayers, kind words, visits, flowers and calls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence or to the MS Society (Toronto Chapter).
