With hearts full of love and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Liisa Alanen (nee: Louko) on March 25th, 2026, 2 weeks after celebrating her 93d birthday. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Heikki, who passed away 14 years ago.
Liisa was the much loved and admired mother of Anne Dello and Tuula Katz, and mother-in-law to her 2 favourite son-in-laws, Jeff and David. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren Nicole (James), Jamie, Ashley, Jason (Diana), Samantha, and Shane who were lucky enough to be loved by the most selfless and giving Mumma. This joy was only surpassed by her love for her great grandsons, Evan, Jake, and Ben. They loved Iso-Mumma so much that they fought over who could say “I love you” the loudest.
Sister to Mikko of Finland; special aunt to Heli Hannula, Margaret Louko, and Marja Wakeford and families, and to many nieces and nephews in Finland; cousin to Sylvia Alanen and family of Sault Ste. Marie; and good friend to many in the Finnish community in Toronto.
Cremation has occurred, celebration of life to take place at a later date. Should you wish to honour Liisa’s memory, donations may be made to Suomi Koti Seniors Home, Toronto or to Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church.
