Lucia, our beloved Mother, Nonna, Sister, Zia, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2026, at the age of 91 surrounded by loved ones. Lucia was a generous, humourous, hard-working, and wise woman whose life was defined by steadfast love and quiet strength.
Born in Corato, Bari, Italy, she was the eldest of seven children. A role that helped shape the steady resolve and caring spirit that remained with her throughout her life. Lucia bravely set to Canada on her own at the age of 22, to join her husband, Giuseppe, and the Ferrara family who accepted her with open arms. She later brought her whole family to join her as she began her new life here in Canada.
Lucia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Giuseppe; and is survived by her children, Angela and Riccardo (Teresa); her grandchildren, Olivia (Christopher), Sara (Mark), and Joseph. She will be missed by all those who loved her.
Lucia loved to sew, as she was a talented seamstress. She was intent on mending and fixing clothing, and took special care in teaching these lessons to her children and grandchildren. She was also a great cook, famous for her focaccia, and fava e cicoria. Lucia loved to share her recipes with family and friends.
Above all, her family was her focus, and she was faithful in her devotion to watch over all those she loved. Her happiest times were spent surrounded by her family at the cottage, and many family vacations.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude for the compassionate care provided by North York General Hospital and to all those that visited and contacted her on her last days.
Visitation will be held Sunday April 12, 2026, at the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home 6191 Yonge Street in North York from 2:00 to 6:00 pm.
