Having lived a full life, Marguerite McKinnon passed peacefully away on Saturday morning, 12 December 2015, at the age of 95 in Toronto. Predeceased by her husband James McKinnon, and her eldest son, Daniel, Margeurite raised four children and will be missed by Linda (Frank) Kehler, Alex (Lisa) McKinnon, and Susan (Walter Murray) McKinnon, as well as numerous grand-children, great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild, all of whom she loved and enjoyed. She is also survived by her sister, Molly (Muriel).
Marguerite was born on June 27, 1920, and grew up as a child of the Depression on Toronto Island, where she loved the water and water sports. Later, she enjoyed camping and other outdoor activities, and contributed to victory in WW II by welding aircraft at the Victory Aircraft plant in Malton. She married James on April 2, 1947, and moved with him to New Brunswick, where they began raising a young family. They moved in 1963 to Schomberg, Ontario and ran a grocery store for several years until moving to Toronto in 1968, where they retired. Afterwards, they enjoyed many trips to New Brunswick, the West, and, especially, Florida for the colder months. Marguerite was fortunate to be able to remain in her beloved home with the assistance of Linda and Susan, and with her little dog Boots, until earlier this year. She wrote reams of poetry, some of which has been published. We would like to thank the staff of Greenview Lodge for their kind and attentive care while Mother was with them the past few months.
Funeral services will be held at the Jerrett Funeral Home (www.jerrettfuneralhometoronto.ca) on Wednesday, 16 December, located at 6191 Yonge St., Toronto. Visitation will take place at 11 am followed by a service at 12 noon and then reception.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that in memorium donations be made to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, 9280 Airport Rd, Mount Hope, Ontario L0R 1W0 (www.warplane.command) and directed to the Lancaster Engine Overhaul Appeal.
