Maria Anna was named for Our Lady, Mary, and for her mother, Saint Anne.
Anna, as the family calls her now, was born in Toronto to Pietro Del Mastro and Giuseppina Ceddia, who immigrated to Canada in 1956 from San Marco In Lamis, Italy.
Anna lived a life filled with love and joy, against all odds.
Her greatest happiness was her husband, Domenico Antonio Scida, whom she called Anthony.
She loved being surrounded by her family, from Anthony’s children, Matthew, Amanda, Michael and his bride, Deanna, whom she called “my kids”, to her many nieces and nephews: Leonardo, Karen, Madeleine, Matteo, Pierangelo, Alessandro, Peter, Oliver, Jake, Michael, Rachel, Joseph, Jerome, Angelica, Eliza and James.
The baby of the family, Anna leaves behind her siblings, Vilma, Teresa and Danny and her brothers-in-law, Angelo R., Angelo A. and Victor, as well as Carmelita, and Anthony’s parents, Joe and Yolanda.
Anna was fond of her many cousins, some in Australia and Italy, but in particular, she enjoyed the company of Little Ter.
Anna leaves behind her many dear aunts and uncles; in Toronto: Aunt Angela, Uncle Mike, Aunt Anna and Aunt Mary, in San Marco in Lamis: zio Michele, zia Rosalia, and zia Lina (Arcangela).
Anna is predeceased by her Uncle Frank, Uncle Tony, zio Nazario and her Aunt Lina (Rachele).
Anna’s closest life-long friends were Elicia, Mable and Amelia, whom she had the good fortune to meet when she attended York University and Winchester Public School.
Anna belonged to many friend groups, such as “the gang”, which included Rose, Anna, Donald, Rob, Tiina, Sean, Fran, Timmie, Narine, Rina and John.
She will be missed by her friends at York Mills, especially Ed, Melissa and Jacey.
Anna was passionate about her many cats, from Rocky (1994) to, more recently, Cara.
Anna was Roman Catholic. In her later years, she met the Reverend Patricia Rollox at Queen’s Park where they both worked for the Government of Ontario. Patricia became a dear friend and Anna continued her spiritual growth through the Reverend’s Church, Royal Rouge Christian Ministries.
“The family requests that anyone attending please wear a mask for the prevention of Covid. For the same reason, there will be no reception after the funeral.”
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kanejerrettnorthyork.ca for the family.
