Maria Simonka

Maria was the loving wife of the late Frank Simonka for more than 67 years. Maria will be deeply missed by her devoted children Elizabeth (Jim) and Kathy (Rudy). She was a loving "Mama" to Jesse (Katharine), Casey (Paige), Steven (Julia), Ryan (Maddy) and great grandmother to Henry.

Maria is survived by her sister Juliska, sister in law Ilus, daughter Maria (Abe), and grandchildren Michael, Rob, and Mark. Her godchildren brought her love and happiness as well as her extended family, many friends and dear neighbours.

Maria was known for her kind and generous heart, vibrant spirit, beautiful smile, and devotion and unconditional love for her family and friends. She enjoyed storytelling, singing, and telling jokes.

Maria worked hard all her life cleaning homes, cooking, baking, gardening, and devoted much of her time to volunteering at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C. Church. Mama and her friends spent many hours cooking and baking at the church. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and the aroma and comfort of her homemade Hungarian dishes.

Maria loved spending weekends at the cottage gardening, mushroom hunting, and baking lángos and perec in her outdoor oven. Mama especially enjoyed the time she spent there with her grandchildren, as they were her pride and joy.

Maria was thankful for the good life that she and Frank built in Canada. She was blessed with a beautiful family and many friends. Her beautiful smile and generous soul will be deeply missed.

Visitation will take place at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street in North York on June 19, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C. Church, 432 Sheppard Ave East in Toronto, on June 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at York Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Maria's memory to St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C. Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
