Born in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, she was the daughter of Victor Bernard Herdé and Julina Eugenie Herdé (neé Vatran).
Marie Louise grew up in Trinidad in a large and happy family, as the eldest of seven children. She attended and boarded at St Joseph's Convent high school-in Port-of-Spain Trinidad. After graduation she worked at the Royal Bank and met her husband (also the eldest of 7 children) and they were married in 1957. After having 3 children and keeping busy and working at her sister's French pastry shop, she and her husband immigrated to Toronto joining 2 of her brothers and one sister, already in Canada. The transition to a new country and lifestyle was not easy but the sacrifice was made to improve the opportunities for her children and build a home for her family.
Marie Louise enjoyed cooking traditional Trinidadian Cuisine and French pastries. She loved to entertain her family and friends with numerous dinner parties. Music, dancing, and traveling were some of her favorite activities. Overall, her children, husband, grandchildren were the most important focus in her life and brought her most joy.
Survived by her 3 children, daughters Karen Haddad and Nicole de Silva and her son Anthony de Silva (Olga), her two sisters, Suzanne Herdé-Parris and Josephine Harauz (John), and one brother Joseph Herdé (Elizabeth), her two grandchildren Luca de Silva and Sebastian de Silva.
Also survived by a multitude of in-laws, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews in Canada, Trinidad, Australia, USA, and the UK
Predeceased by her parents, husband Louis Anthony de Silva, two brothers Victor Paul Herdé (Suzanne), Maximillien Herdé (Denise), and one sister Jaqueline Herdé- Hosam.
