Mary Alma Chiesa (nee Brady) was born on April 25, 1949, and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 14, 2026, at the age of 77. Mary was a kind, funny, and deeply caring woman who touched the lives of everyone around her. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a loyal friend whose warmth and sense of humor brightened every room. Her greatest joys came from spending time with her family, offering quiet support, sharing laughter, and being the steady heart of her home. She leaves behind a legacy shaped by care, steadiness, and love that was felt more than it was ever announced.
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Mary began her first career as a kindergarten teacher—work that suited her gentle patience and attentive spirit. She later became a mother, and in the years that followed, she also supported her husband in his successful businesses, offering the kind of behind-the-scenes strength that so often makes a family’s life possible and whole.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her beloved husband of 50+ years, Dino Chiesa; her children, Karen (Joff Elliot) and Gregory (Kristina Miezis); her cherished grandchildren, Bennett and Parker; and her sisters, Barbara Redmond (the late Donald) and Audrey Richards (Raymond), and her sister-in-law Sandra Brady, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Bob Robert Brady and Patricia Leclair (the late Robert)
Mary found beauty in living things, in flowers and gardening and in her many pets that she lovingly cared for over the years. Mary found joy in a good book, a bad pun, and jigsaw puzzles on a rainy day at the lake. She loved to travel with her husband Dino and friends, especially to Italy, where she delighted in her passion for great food and wine—simple pleasures savoured with gratitude and presence. She also made many happy memories at her cottage with her children, grandchildren, family and friends, where time seemed to slow, and love had room to stretch out and settle in.
The family extends deep thanks to Mary’s compassionate doctors, nurses and close friends who supported her through her difficult diagnosis and were there until the end, offering care that mattered in ways words cannot describe. We are forever grateful for Sue Coish, Julie Ross and caregiver Steve Vickers for their unwavering support.
Visitation will take place at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Homes, 6191 Yonge Street in Toronto on May 26, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Mary’s gentle spirit, quick wit, and unconditional love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. Her family feels grateful for the many years they shared and finds comfort knowing she left this world surrounded by the love she gave and she will be missed by all who knew her but mostly by family who knew her so dearly
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.
