Richard Bhola Mangar, 62, passed away on January 8, 2021. Born on February 1, 1958, he grew up in Providence, Guyana. Richard is preceded in death by his father David Mangar, and brothers David Mangar Jr. and Joseph Mangar. He is survived by his mother Sukhie Mangar, sisters Rosemary, Deborah and Roxanne; mother of his children Sharon Mangar, sons Justin Mangar and Joshua Mangar. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Richard had two passions in life - his sons and cricket. He was very proud of his sons and loved spending time with them.
He had a along outstanding career as a Cricketer. From his early pioneering days at Providence on the East Bank Of Demerara showed an immense potential as a batsman of genuine class and during his formative years and thereafter did not disappoint, but rather transformed his natural inclination as a batsman to become a genuine all-rounder with the propensity to instill swing and movement in a new ball with unerring accuracy to the detriment of all opposing batsmen. Such was his natural talent that he was selected to represent the East Bank Sugar Estates combined team at the age of 16 where he remained a permanent fixture until he migrated to Canada in his early 20’s.
Once migrated to Canada, Richard played for Cavaliers sports club in the Toronto District league where he was one of the most feared bowlers not only in the Premier League but also when he played representatively for the Toronto combined league. As a pace bowler he was often unplayable. He made many batsmen run from the crease. Such was his brilliance as evidenced by a performance of 7 wickets for 2 runs in a league semi-final that he was awarded numerous accolades such as MVP, Best Bowler, and Outstanding All Rounder.
Richard will be forever loved and deeply missed by his family, relatives and friends.
May he rest in loving peace.
