It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert David (Bob) Christie, who left us peacefully at home on the morning of March 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his distinguished career in public service, and his sharp intellect and wit.
Bob cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Kathryn Christie, and 3 children: Shannon Berkhuizen (Ian), Erin Rosenberg (Hans), and Bryan Christie (Liz). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Sean, Caitlyn, Gabrielle, and Nathaniel, whose lives he enriched with love and wisdom. Bob will also be deeply missed by his brothers, Don Christie (Epie) and Bill Christie (Kelly). He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Peg and Lou Christie.
Bob spent 34 years with the Ontario Public Service, where he made a lasting impact through his leadership and expertise. He twice served as the Deputy Minister of Training, Colleges, and Universities (1999–2000, 2004–2005) and as Deputy Minister of Finance (2000–2004). He retired as Chief Executive Officer and Superintendent of Financial Services at the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, where his guidance and knowledge shaped financial policy in the province. Bob’s academic achievements included a Ph.D. in Economics from Queen’s University, a testament to his lifelong passion for learning.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob embraced life with curiosity and humor. A lifelong Star Trek fan, he believed in the importance of boldly going where no one had gone before—whether in public service, intellectual pursuits, or his legendary ability to fix almost anything with duct tape.
His legacy of integrity, kindness, and ingenuity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 3 from 5-8 pm, with a celebration of Bob’s life on Friday, April 4 at 11 am, both at Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home (6191 Yonge Street, North York).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Freeman Centre for Palliative Care at North York General Hospital or the North York Harvest Food Bank in Bob’s name.
