Roberto Ciamarone

Born in Francavilla, Italy, on April 11, 1938, Roberto was the beloved son of Vittorio and Lucia Ciamarone, both predeceased. He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Pauline Gelinas Ciamarone, whom he married in February 1959.

Roberto leaves behind his loving daughters, Loreana Ciamarone-Link (James) and Claudia Ciamarone-Occhipinti (Clint). He was a proud grandfather to Cassandra, Brittney, Roberto, Marcus, Grace (predeceased in 2021), and step-grandson Matteo. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Faythe, Pierce, and Carmella Grace. Roberto is lovingly remembered by his devoted nephew, Joseph Rowe, along with many extended family members and friends.

On April 22, 1954, at the age of 16, Roberto arrived in Canada, landing in Halifax before continuing on to Toronto. When he was greeted by a snowstorm on May 4, 1954, he immediately wanted to return to Italy. Fortunately for all who loved him, he stayed and built a remarkable life.

In 1957, Roberto met the love of his life, Pauline. Together they were known for lighting up the dance floor, often drawing crowds who would stop to watch them dance. They married in 1959 and spent the next 67 years building the life they had always dreamed of—a life centered on hard work, family, loyalty, and love.

Throughout his career, Roberto worked in the film industry, where he met many celebrities and accumulated countless stories. He often spoke of those who were kind and humble, as well as those who were less so, yet he always remained professional and discreet. Though many would have paid dearly to hear his stories, Roberto was an upstanding gentleman who valued integrity above all else.

A man of extraordinary skill and determination, Roberto held nearly every driving licence imaginable. From farm equipment and transport trucks to limousines and international licences, he could expertly handle everything from an eighteen-wheeler to a race car. To his family, he was simply the best driver they had ever known.

Roberto later found rewarding work with Film Labs, which became Quinn Labs, a job he truly enjoyed. Yet his lifelong dream was to own a barber shop. Having learned the trade in Italy at the age of seven, when he helped support his family after losing his father at the age of one, he carried that dream with him for decades. Eventually, he made it a reality by opening and operating The Lord’s Place Barbershop at the Weston Road and Highway 401 Plaza, proudly serving as its sole proprietor.

Roberto retired in 2003 and enjoyed spending precious time with his family before suffering a stroke two years later. Although the stroke affected his left side, it never diminished his love of life, his family, or his sense of humour. He was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.

Roberto enjoyed a good Guinness, the occasional shot, listening to Dean Martin, and watching soccer for hours on end. A talented soccer player in his youth, he played on representative teams in Italy and continued playing after immigrating to Canada until a knee injury ended his playing days.

He was also deeply proud of his adopted country. A devoted Canadian sports fan, he spent many evenings at Maple Leaf Gardens, taking his daughters to watch games and creating memories that would last a lifetime.

Family and friends will forever remember Roberto’s daily phone calls—updating everyone on changing gas prices, sharing the latest news, or simply calling to ask how they were doing. Those calls became a treasured part of everyday life.

Roberto was a man who believed in helping others, treating everyone with kindness and respect, and putting family first. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a cherished uncle, and a loyal friend.

His strength, generosity, humour, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
