Shirley was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on born April 9, 1937. She grew up in Kirkland Lake, later moving to Newtonbrook. Throughout her life, she carried herself with a steady thoughtfulness and an open-handed generosity that made others feel seen and remembered, often in quiet, meaningful ways.
Shirley was predeceased by her mother and father, Ed and Nan; her siblings Carol, Peggy, and Bob; and her son Larry. She also rejoins in eternity her long time friend Marie.
A true world traveller, Shirley approached life with purpose and a sense of completion. Having accomplished all of her goals, as she would have appreciated saying with a touch of humour, having “scrapped clean the bucket list.” Her compassionate spirit showed itself not only in the way she looked out for others, but also in the love she held for her dogs, sharing her life with many toy poodles over the years. Shirley’s generous heart was always inclined to share her advantages with those less fortunate and with those around her.
The family extends many thanks to the staff at Victoria House for their care, with special thanks to the brave and compassionate nurses at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.
A private cremation has occurred. Shirley will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery with her parents and brother.
