Don Marlin Durrant was born in Scott City, KS; he was the firstborn of Marcine Dawn Mellick Durrant and Marvin Wilbur Durrant. Don grew up on the family farm, helping with the chores, raising a prize steer in 4H, and relishing trips to Colorado for camping and hiking.
In 1963, his family moved to Bryan, Texas; he graduated from Bryan High School in 1966. Don had a lifelong love and motivation for creating things of wood or metal and writing poetry. Early in life, Don was a working artist, creating hundreds of welded metal sculptures to sell in the Texas art circuit. Later he focused on home repair contracting and remodeling. Over the years, Don lived in Bryan, San Antonio, Carpinteria (CA), Austin, and Tyler.
Don was an active member and minister of the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness. Don loved God and the Light; he was a loyal friend, dedicated to serving others, especially his church family.
Friends found his quirky sense of humor and non-conformist approach to life as endearingly chaotic. Don loved cats and enjoyed the companionship of many - including dangerous Mack, toothless Mike, and loving Dash. Each one was precious to him.
He passed away following a long-term respiratory illness at UT Health East Texas Tyler Hospital, surrounded by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Lane Durrant, and Barbara Durrant of Bryan, Texas; his sister, Jan Durrant, and Darwyn Donnenwerth of Aiken, South Carolina; his brother, Noel Durrant, and Joy Durrant of Tyler; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
