

Gilbert Arteaga, age 57, of Tyler, Texas passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, in Tyler. He was born on September 20, 1965, in Morton, Texas to Vicente Sr. and Dominga (Sabala) Arteaga. He married Lindy (McKee) Arteaga in Tyler on July 5, 1997.
He graduated from Texas Tech University in 1988 with a degree in Engineering Technology. Gilbert worked as a Professional Civil Engineer for over 30 years. He ended his career at the Texas Department of Transportation. He was the District Design Engineer for the Tyler District when he retired on April 30, 2022.
Gilbert loved his wife and children dearly. He loved buying shoes whenever he could, especially boots so he could go dancing. He enjoyed listening to music, going to happy hour with family and friends, and making lasting memories. He loved to travel, especially to Destin, Florida as the beach was one of his favorite places. He loved taking getaway trips to any casino he could find with his wife and an occasional antique store. He loved cheering on his Texas Tech Red Raiders with his daughters and tailgating whenever he could.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents Vicente Sr. and Dominga (Sabala) Arteaga; two sisters, Trina Torres and Teresa Arteaga; one niece, Sabatha Ramon; and one nephew, Christopher Richardson.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lindy (McKee) Arteaga; two daughters, Marcella Elena and Anna Marie Arteaga; son-in-law, Trevor Mann of Spring, Texas; dog, Harley; granddog, Lady; his four brothers, Amado Arteaga and his wife Sofia of Abilene Texas, Vicente Arteaga Jr. of Morton, Texas, Valentino Arteaga of Dallas, Texas, and Geno Cavezuela of Morton, Texas; his six sisters, Susan Ramon and her husband Joe of Morton, Texas, Carolina Morin of Lubbock, Texas, Cecilia Arteaga of Morton, Texas, Mary Arteaga of Morton, Texas, Delia Flores and her husband, Juan of Lubbock, Texas, and Estefana Mendoza and her husband, Michael of Denver City, Texas; his two Aunts, Concha Bautista of Phoenix, Arizona and Annie Flores of Muleshoe, Texas; his six nephews, Santino Arteaga, Nicholas Arteaga, Amado Arteaga Jr., Vicente Arteaga III, Sergio Arteaga, and Estevan Mendoza; his four nieces, Christina Lamar, Yvette Velasquez, Amanda Arteaga, and Katarina Rodriguez; his 17 grand-nephews/nieces; his six great-grand-nephews/nieces; mother-in-law, Mary (Darst) McKee of Terrell, Texas; two sister-in-laws, Patty Cockerham and husband Luther of Longview, Texas, and Josie Richardson of Terrell, Texas; and many cousins and extended family members.
The family would like to thank Hospice of East Texas, UT Health of East Texas, and MD Anderson in Houston, Texas for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in his final days. The family suggests donations be sent in their honor to the Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception at 423 S. Broadway Ave, Tyler, Texas on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at 1:00 pm. Interment to follow at Cathedral in the Pines Memorial Garden at 7825 S. Broadway Ave, Tyler, Texas. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 - 7:00 pm at Lloyd James Funeral Home located at 1011 E 1st St, Tyler, Texas on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, with a rosary to follow beginning at 7:00 pm.
