Colonel Howard Lee Kravetz passed away surrounded by family at his home in Bullard, TX on May 8, 2026. He leaves a legacy of service, leadership, and a deep devotion to family and those closest to him.
Howard served his country in the United States Air Force for over 30 years, including a combat tour in Vietnam as a FAC pilot followed by Strategic Air Command, Squadron Commander and Wing Commander assignments later in his career. Throughout his military service, he earned numerous honors, including the Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism during aerial flight in Vietnam, as well as the respect of those serving with him. His commitment to duty, integrity, and country during his military service helped shape his life after retirement.
A lifelong avid golfer, following retirement from the Air Force Howard bought a home on the golf course at Panorama Village, Texas where he played several times a week while continuing his involvement in public service, first as a city council member and then as mayor. For almost 25 years, Howard led the community with a steady hand through several major civic projects and approached each decision as mayor with a view to what is best for every resident in the community.
While a resident of Panorama Village, Howard was also a member of the Montgomery County-Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport Board. More recently, following his move to Bullard, he served on the Bullard Community Library Board and as a member of the Bullard Economic Development Committee.
Greater than any accomplishments or titles, Howard is remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was a steady presence, a source of strength and someone whose love for his family was deep and unwavering. The family will miss his wisdom, encouragement, humor, support and his many, many stories.
Howard was a member of Congregation Beth El in Tyler, Texas and is survived by his loving wife, Deanne C. Kravetz; daughters Melissa Kravetz and Alison Kravetz; grandsons James Shipp, Luke Hemple, and Zack Hemple; sons-in-law Phil Shipp and David Hemple; sister Carol Kravetz, sister-in-laws, Cissy Kravetz and Iris Welin and many nieces and nephews.
