

Jack was born on May 10, 1947 in Seminole, Texas to Jack and Dorothy Townley. After he was born, the family relocated to Hamlin, Texas, where he spent his youth, graduating from Hamlin High School in 1965.
Jack then chose Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas to continue his education, graduating there in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech and English. He later earned his Master of Arts degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Jack spent many years working as a teacher, school counselor, and administrator. Jack retired from Tyler Independent School District in 2011.
In his first teaching assignment, in Lamesa, Texas, Jack was introduced to Rebecca Bogard of San Saba, Texas, and they were married in August of 1971. They were blessed with three children: Marc, Anna, and David.
Jack and Rebecca spent 54 years together and enjoyed many activities. Jack’s favorite hobby was gardening and totally improving the landscape of their property quite often. They spent the majority of their married life in Tyler, where they were devoted members of Green Acres Baptist Church.
Jack is survived by his wife Rebecca; his sons, Marc (Erin) Townley, and David Townley, and was predeceased by his daughter, Anna Townley; his five grandchildren, Skylar and Ashton Townley of Houston, Texas, and Jameson, Philippa, and Genevieve Townley of Houston, Texas; his sister, Sharon Townley of Abilene, Texas; his brothers-in-law Mike (Mary Ruth) Bogard of Gatesville, Texas, and Greg (Judy) Bogard of Junction, Texas.
The family will receive friends, Thursday, April 30, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM with a funeral service to begin at 2:00 PM, Lloyd James Funeral Home, immediately followed by committal at Cathedral in the Pines in Tyler. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.
