Mary Edith Brumby, loving wife, best mother and Nana ever, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 15, 2025, two days before her 91st birthday. Mary was born on July 17, 1934, in Fayetteville, Tennessee to David and Ellie Moore Smith. She was a graduate of Bird High School and Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority.
Mary and her husband, Floyd, were married 62 years and moved to Tyler in 2000. Mary retired from Tenneco Oil and Pipeline Company in Houston in 1992 as a regulatory analyst. Mary was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Mary is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Lyol and Amy Brumby of Tampa, Florida, and her two grandchildren, Cole Thomas, and McKenna MaryJo Brumby. Mary adored her grandchildren so much and loved spoiling them with peppermint and peach ice cream. Mary’s other joy in life was visiting with her best friend of 85 years, our Aunt Janice in Tennessee.
Mary is remembered for her love of people and her love for her Sunday school church group at Marvin. Mary and Floyd took loaves bread and poinsettia flowers each year to many of the congregation members of Marvin United Methodist Church and people in need throughout the community. Mary loved dogs especially her Havanese she named Faith. She also loved flowers and had a beautiful yard full of azaleas every spring. She loved to play bridge and loved to cook for her family and friends. She always had a smile every day and loved her family. Mary loved to make her famous Margaritas before serving Thanksgiving dinner to her family. Mary was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be dearly missed by all. Special thanks to our family Judith Jenkins, Leslie Saulny and the entire staff in Frisco, Texas for their wonderful care of Mary where she lived the last few years.
