Norma Louise Pieper, age 82, died on March 5th, 2024 in Tyler, Texas. She was born on November 2nd, 1941 to Sam and Beulah Pieper in Beeville, TX. Norma had four brothers. Three of them were older and one younger.
Raised in Beeville, TX, she graduated from A.C. Jones High School in Beeville. She then attended Howard Payne University majoring in General Business with minors in English and Accounting.
After college, Norma went to work for IBM where she worked in Sales and Training for 28 years. Her career there was quite successful and afforded her a good living. During that time, Norma decided to take in her cousin, Lil Jack, and her three children. What started out as a temporary solution, became a life-long choice. Lil, Mark, Becky and Janie Jack became her family.
After working for IBM, Norma took early retirement and started a joint venture with Lillian (Sug) Jack in the home decorating business, primarily residential window treatments. Norma truly enjoyed the entire process of taking a blank window or wall and turning it into a beautiful space for people to enjoy. Norma worked for family, friends, and had a solid client base. One of her largest projects and most beautiful and elaborate work was done in the home of the now infamous Darlie Routier. Later Norma went to work for Black Mann & Graham, a mortgage document preparation company.
After her final retirement and upon the death of her cousin, Norma moved to The Woodlands, TX near Houston. Her desire was to be closer to her brothers. Norma became a volunteer at The Woodlands Memorial Hermann Hospital Gift Shop. She loved helping with inventory, purchasing, and sales alongside her brother Bill and other great people who became her friends. In 2022 Norma decided to move to Tyler, Texas to be closer to Becky and her family. She moved into the Meadow Lake Senior Living community where she made many friends. She often stated that it was the best move she could ever have made. She made fast friends there and engaged fully in the activities there. Her many, many friends at Meadow Lake were family to her as much as the rest of us.
Norma was an avid and competitive game player. She loved playing dominos, card games and working puzzles. She loved the camaraderie around the game table and there ensued many a playful, and yet sometimes intense, battle of skill and wit. It was fun to win against Norma, but often quite difficult to do.
Family meant everything to Norma and she had a big one. She is predeceased by her brothers Sam, Bill and James, nephew Robert, and cousin Lil Jack. She is survived by her cousin Lil Jack’s children Mark, Becky, and Janie; brother Ber; sisters-in-law Adele, Joyce and Linda; nieces and nephews Mary Lee, Lynda, Jack, Anne, Jim, Anna, Mike, Karen, John, David, Melanie, Cheryl, and Wanda; and many, many of their children who she considered grandkids of her own.
A service of celebration of Norma’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Family will receive friends prior to the service in the chapel 9-10 a.m. Burial will be on Monday, March 11th at Brookside Memorial Park at 12 Noon in Houston.
