Celebration of Life for Robert Stephen Massey, 72, of Tyler is scheduled for 2:00 pm, Sunday, April 14, 2019 in the chapel of Lloyd James Funeral Home with Mr. Glenn Cogburn officiating. Burial will be in Kendrick cemetery.
He passed away Thursday, April 11, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.
Steve was born on August 13, 1946 in Tyler to the late George and Opal Baker Massey of Tyler. Steve was the only child. He graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and attended Tyler Junior College. He went on to serve with honor in the United States Navy from 1965 -1971. He served in the Vietnam War from 1966-1968. Steve made his career as a diesel mechanic and worked for Permian Corporation for 26 years. Steve was a member of Bullard Church of Christ.
He loved to fish, hunt and especially loved to camp with his family.
Steve is survived by his wife Carole Ford Massey of 52 years; daughters Suzanne Stoeppleman (Jim) and Sandra Stanley (Greg); grandchildren Jessica Schneider, Zackary Slaydon, Tyler Slaydon and Cooper Stanley; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be William P. Ford, Greg Stanley, Jim Stoeppleman, Matt Schneider, Zackary Slaydon, and Tyler Slaydon.
Honorary pallbearers will be JP Emerine, Sid Tietz, and Drew Stanley.
A special thank you to the people at Hospice of East Texas for their loving care and support during his final days.
The family will receive friends from 1pm – 2pm Sunday at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
