

Services for William C. ”Bill” Barger, 81, of Tyler are scheduled for 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 20, 2014 at Heritage Baptist Church with the Revs. Weldon Viertel and Wesley Veazey officiating under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home. Burial is in China Spring Cemetery.
Bill passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2014, in Tyler.
He was born on January 18, 1933 in Teague, to the late Henry Edgar and Nettie Christian Barger. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Bill was a member of the Paris, Texas Rotary Club serving as secretary, also a member of the South Tyler Rotary Club. He was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He taught children’s Sunday school class for 35 years. He was an ordained Baptist deacon. He had been a member of the Westwood Baptist Church, the Woods Baptist Church and a current member of the Heritage Baptist Church. He lived in Paris, Texas for 24 ½ years and moved to Tyler where he had resided for 31 years. Bill also loved to travel and was able to visit all 50 states.
Bill is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marie Barger, of Tyler; two sons, Larry Barger, of Newark and Bobby Barger, of Waco; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Rayford Barger, of Teague, Lesslie Barger, of Dallas and Jerry Barger, of Greenville; sisters, Velma Garrett, of Mesquite, Wynema Hamilton and husband, Bruce, of Caddo Mills and Glenda Tucker, of Caddo Mills; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Joe Barger.
Pallbearers will be Buddy Scudder, Lynn McGaughey, Leroy Churchill, Bill Hughes, Jack Johnson, Ben Barger, Wesley Barger and Brandon Barger. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Millington, Charles Harrell, Tom Musselwhite, Harold McFarland and Bill Watson.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Lloyd James Funeral Home.
