William Bruce Smith, known to most as Bill and to some of his family as Bruce, was born on April 5, 1944, and passed away on December 29, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Even in his final days, he met life with humor, grace, and a deep love for the people around him.
Bill was a devoted family man and the loving husband of Erlinda Smith, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage. He was immensely proud of his sons, Jason and Bayani, and found great joy in his role as grandfather to Jeremy and Joanna, children of Bayani and his wife, Tara. Family—both immediate and extended—was the center of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A proud Vietnam veteran, Bill served in the Security Forces of the United States Air Force, carrying his sense of duty and commitment to others throughout his life. He worked at Fresh, where he loved the people he worked with and often spoke of his coworkers as a second family. His genuine care for others and easygoing nature made a lasting impression on everyone around him.
Bill gave back generously to his community, volunteering at the Green Zone to help fellow veterans. He valued friendship and routine, especially his weekly coffee gatherings with friends—moments filled with conversation, laughter, and connection.
His faith was a cornerstone of his life. Bill was deeply involved at Fairwood United Methodist Church, where he found strength, fellowship, and purpose. His faith guided how he lived, served, and loved others.
Even as he faced illness, Bill never lost his sense of humor. He continued to joke, uplift those around him, and show gratitude for each day. He will be remembered for his kindness, faith, service, devotion to family, and the love he so freely gave.
William “Bill” “Bruce” Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
