

“Giovanina Mary “Jean” Kelly, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 5th, at the Peace Care nursing home with her children by her side.
Born August 20, 1927, Jean Iorio was a first generation American with her parents immigrating from the Campobasso region of Italy. In 1948, she married Joseph Kelly, also of Jersey City and remained married for 41 years until Joseph’s passing in 1989. Following a 30+ year career with the First Jersey Bank at Exchange Place, Jean gave generously of her time, doing volunteer work at Christ Hospital in Jersey City for nearly 30 years, touching countless lives along the way. She will be remembered for her love of her family and friends, Frank Sinatra’s music and Tom Selleck’s television shows.
Jean is survived by her children Joseph and his wife Arlene, Eileen and her husband Thomas, her grandchildren Joseph and his wife Cheryl, Michelle and her husband John, Sean and his wife Michelle, Katherine and her husband Brendan and great-grandchildren Joseph, Robert, John Joseph, and Daniel. She is also pre-deceased by five siblings, Anthony, Josephine, Mary, Elizabeth, and Antoinette, and is survived by a sixth sibling, Angelina.
Jean’s viewing will take place on Monday, October 9th from 4-7pm at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Union City, NJ. Her funeral service will take place on Tuesday, October 10th at 10:30 at St. Paul of the Cross R.C.C., 156 Hancock Ave, Jersey City, NJ, and she will be laid to rest at 12:45pm following the funeral service at Forest Green Cemetery, 535 Texas Road, Morganville, NJ.
Jean’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.”
