

Dennis Lee Wendel’s life is a testament to his dedication to family, community and country. He was born February 25, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas and embraced life’s adventures until he went to be among the angels on August 4, 2024, at the age of 73.
He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1969 and began his early career at Krueger Chevrolet in New Braunfels, Texas until 1976. During this time, he was also a committed member of the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1975. His expertise as a master technician then shined brightly at Benson Motor Company, where he specialized in Mercedes Benz automobiles until retirement.
Marriage to Sharon Ann Biesenbach marked a union of love and shared values, as they wed on August 7, 1971, at Community Church. His spiritual journey was deeply rooted in his upbringing at Peace Lutheran Church and later at Redeemer United Church.
His passions were as diverse as they were engaging. From the tranquility of fishing to the thrill of hunting, the joy of baseball and the satisfaction he found in automotive work. His legacy extends through his family, the lives he touched coaching his sons’ baseball teams, the people he met while being a cheerleader for his daughter’s activities and his active role in church. Dennis’s story is a testament to a life well-lived, filled with love, faith and the simple pleasures that bring us together.
Dennis is preceded in death by his wife Sharon Wendel; parents Elsie & LeeRoy Wendel; brother Scott Wendel; parents-in-law Franklin & Adeline Biesenbach; and brother-in-law Dennis Biesenbach.
He is survived by his daughter Jena Wendel; son Kevin Wendel and wife Michele; brother Stephen Wendel and wife Elizabeth; brother Roger Wendel and wife Wanda; sister Carol Wendel; and grandchildren Sebastian and Adelie Wendel.
Dennis’s memory can be honored through contributions to Texas Parks & Wildlife Department and FlatsWorthy Texas conservation projects, reflecting his love for nature.
The visitation and funeral services are set to celebrate his life and the indelible mark he left on people’s hearts. Visitation is Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home in Universal City, Texas. The funeral service is Thursday, August 15, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
