Don was raised in the oil fields of Maracaibo, Venezuela. After graduating from Georgia Tech, Don married his college sweetheart Marty and joined the US Army. A Vietnam veteran, he served for 30 years before retiring in San Antonio.
A 44-year resident of San Antonio, Don strongly believed in giving back to the community. Don was an active leader and member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Randolph Area, and St. Margarets and Church of the Resurrection Episcopal Churches. For many years, he was also a bilingual mentor for a local elementary school.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Martha Swartwout, 3 children, their spouses, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. His son “Bud” preceded him in death.
There will be a memorial service at the Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal on Sept 17, 2022 at 1:00 pm.
