

Edith “Jackie” Norman, age 79 passed away July 14, 2014. She was born April 8, 1935 in Bina, North Carolina which is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She was born to Joe and Fannie Badger. Mrs. Norman was raised on a family farm that produced tobacco and raised chickens, turkeys, cows, pigs and the farm even had a horse! She graduated Valedictorian from the Lansing High School early because she skipped a grade and went to work as a Dental Assistant for the next couple of years. During this time, Jackie had married for the first time to an Air Force member and they were deployed to Yokota Air Force Base in Japan and then to Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines. They returned to Little Rock Air Force Base and Jackie divorced. She would go on to meet the love of her life, John B. Norman, Chief Master Sergeant. They were assigned to Randolph Air Force Base and Jackie took a new position with the Personnel Division that was transferred from the Pentagon. She headed up the Air Force Entitlement Department which was worldwide. When the Air Force offered early retirement for civilians, she took advantage and retired on April 4, 1988. She had spent over 33 years in employment with the Air Force but now she needed to return home to care for her ailing mother. After her mother’s passing she returned to her home here to the Randolph area and took up traveling. She has been all over the world from Switzerland to Australia and many places in between. Jackie loved needlework and enjoyed being a part of the community at Esplanade Gardens. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband John Norman. She is survived by her sister, Donna Poe and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends in the Greater Randolph Area. A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home. Jackie will be interred with her husband at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
