

George Bernard Stadter was born to George Michael Stadter and Minnetta Angela (Krieger) Stadter in Baltimore, Maryland. He was married to Kathryn Claire (Kacy) Jones on September 8, 1951. They shared 62 years of marriage together until Kacy’s death in 2013.
George is also preceded in death by his dear sister, Elizabeth Louise (Betty Lou) Aumiller. George is survived by his three brothers, Robert, Richard, and James Stadter and his one sister, Mary Jane Ruppert. George is survived by his four children, M. Kimberley Stadter, Paula A. Stadter, Gregory K. Stadter, and Lauren E. Simmons. He and his wife Kacy delighted in their 4 grandchildren and George has treasured seeing his 7 great grandchildren grow.
George grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He was given an opportunity to attend Mount Saint Joseph’s High School and then joined the Navy in 1943 in pursuit of furthering his education. He attended the University of North Carolina Naval Sciences school in its inaugural year. In 1945, George decided to make the Navy his career. He initially served as a division officer on the New Jersey, then as a communications officer on the Manchester cruiser. He attended airship training in Lakehurst, NJ. George flew airships off aircraft carriers for 6 years as a senior pilot. He is known as one of the only two pilots to ever land airships on aircraft carriers at night. In 1956, George further trained in Pensacola, Florida and became a carrier pilot and landing signal officer.
George then taught military science at Dartmouth College for three years. He was later promoted to the rank of Commander in Quonset Point, RI. George was then stationed in Panama to head up a sector of Naval Communications intelligence. George retired from his last station in Hawaii in 1969.
In retirement he worked in Rochester, NY in aviation electronics developing test equipment and later worked in Lawton, OK for the FAA where he developed and taught management courses for air traffic safety.
George was known as a gentleman to all who met him. He was always gracious, humble, and considerate with a lifelong passion for learning and teaching himself new things. George and the family thrived though all the travels. His hobbies included sailing, gardening, traveling in the RV, craft shows with Kacy, with a strong foundation in history, reading and music.
He was a faithful Catholic and involved in the church throughout his life. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date which is to be announced.
