L. B. Metzger Jr.

Laurie Burnard Metzger Jr., of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 6th, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication. He was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, on July 15th, 1929, to Laurie B. Metzger Sr. and Kathleen (Seckinger) Metzger.

L.B., as he was affectionately known, married Peggy B. Metzger on June 23rd, 1956, in Charleston, South Carolina. His life was marked by a profound commitment to his family, country, and education.

A proud member of the United States Air Force from December 12th, 1952, to June 30th, 1975, L.B. served his nation with honor and distinction. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Southern University in 1951, followed by an MBA from the University of Oklahoma in 1968.

Beyond his professional achievements, L.B. had a passion for life that extended into various hobbies. He found joy in gardening, cherished evenings spent attending live theater, and relished the adventures of travel and cruising.

Throughout his lifetime, L.B. called many places home, including Clyo, Georgia; Charleston, South Carolina; Bellville, Illinois; Norman, Oklahoma; Wheeler AFB, Hawaii; and finally, San Antonio, Texas.

A man of faith and community, L.B. was a former member of Colonial Hills United Methodist Church and actively participated in organizations such as the San Antonio Orchid Society and the San Antonio Conservation Society.

L.B. is preceded in death by his parents, Laurie and Kathleen Metzger, as well as his siblings Helen, William, and Thelma. He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy Baugh Metzger; his devoted daughter, Kathy Rigsby (Paul); his son, Jim Metzger; his grandchildren Kevin Metzger (April), Brent Metzger, Jonathan Metzger, and Phillip Metzger; his sister, Emily Thornhill; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives who will carry his memory with them always.

In the hearts of those who knew him, Laurie Burnard Metzger Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his steadfast dedication, and the love he shared so generously with his family and community.
