June 14, 1938 — April 19, 2026
Mary Susan Ryan, age 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Universal City, Texas, on April 19, 2026. Born on June 14, 1938, in Saint Paul Island, Alaska, to John and Agnes Larsen, Mary was a woman of remarkable faith and spirit, defined by her rugged roots and a lifelong passion for gardening and the game of bowling.
Mary grew up in King Cove on the Aleutian Islands, where she learned to fish and hunt at an early age. Those years fostered a quiet, resourceful strength that remained her hallmark throughout her life. Whether she was tending to her garden or competing on the lanes, Mary brought a dedicated spirit to everything she loved. She was an avid and competitive bowler; having picked up the sport as a young girl, it became her absolute passion, and she remained an active presence in bowling leagues until the age of 85.
Warm, steady, and wise, Mary was known for her practical wisdom and the immense care she showed those around her. She possessed a subtle, dry humor that often kept those around her guessing and always left them smiling. Above all, she was the heart of her family, providing a gentle strength rooted in her deep faith that will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is reunited in death with her parents, John and Agnes Larsen; her beloved husband of 33 years, William Lawrence Ryan Jr.; her son, William Lawrence Ryan III; and her daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Ryan. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Rick Ryan; her daughter, Margee Austin; and her grandsons, Cade Austin and Cole Austin.
