

Phil was born on January 3, 1937, to his parents, Charles “Rick” and Helen Wade Davis in the small river town of Florence, Illinois. He was lovingly known to all as Jake. He attended Tollgate Grade School and graduated in 1955 from East Pike School in Milton, Illinois. During his high school years, he worked on the construction of the first grain elevator in Florence, Illinois. In the summer of 1955, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Where he served as Sergeant First Class during his three-time tour to Vietnam. Over his military years, he was stationed overseas in Korea, Turkey, and Germany. He served as a Telecommunications Activity Center Specialist, Crypto Machine Operator, and Administrative Specialist. He received many decorations and medals to include: Good Conduct Medal Fifth Award, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, three Overseas Service bars, and six Service Strips. Once he returned stateside, he was stationed in San Antonio where he retired from the military after 20 years. He later earned a college degree in Business at the University of Incarnate Word. He worked for many companies over the years as their accountant. Then he found his calling as a Supervisor for the Auditing Department for the IRS in Austin, Texas where he worked for over twenty years and then retired. Phil enjoyed golfing, playing cards, casino games, traveling the U.S., and his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen Davis of Winchester, Illinois, his brothers Don Davis and Archie Davis, his sisters Shirley Sperling and Janice Mae Davis all of Winchester, Illinois, his aunts Bertha Simmons of Meredosia, Illinois and Nora Slagle of Winchester, Illinois, and by his wife of 34 years, Maria Elena Davis, of Live Oak, Texas.
He is survived by his siblings Bruce Davis (Charlotte) of Fresno, California, Joyce Kay Havens of Pittsfield, Illinois, and Bill Davis (Viola) of Jacksonville, Illinois. His wife of 11 years, Phyllis Davis and his puppy, Duke Davis of Cibolo, Texas. His children, Rick Dean Davis (Lisa) of Jacksonville, Illinois, Kenny Wayne Davis (Kelly) of Winchester, Illinois, and Antonia Davis Hernandez (Emilio) of Cypress, Texas. His
stepchildren Misty Elliot (Boots) of Stephenville, Texas, Joey Merian (Josie), Danny Tellez (Linda), Monika Barragan (Kirk) all of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by many grandchildren, and great grandchildren all of whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to extend special thanks to all their friends and relatives for the love and support they have been shown in their time of need. A special thank you to all the staff at Silver Tree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cibolo, Texas for the wonderful care they gave Phil during his stay there.
A visitation for Phil will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. A prayer service will occur Tuesday, February 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. A celebration of life will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, 625 Kitty Hawk Road, Universal City, TX 78148. A committal service will occur Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 2:30 PM to 2:50 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
