

Robert Lee Johnson, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 18, 2017. He was born on September 3, 1938 to George and Earnestine Johnson. He graduated from Carver High School in Lonoke, Arkansas where he developed an enthusiasm for education; he became a member of his high school basketball team.
Robert was married to Cora Lee Johnson (Sabb) on December 26, 1961; they were married for 55 years.
Robert enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country in: Turkey; Little Rock AFB, Arkansas; Kadena AFB, Japan; Nellis AFB, Nevada; Berlin Brigade, Germany; Brook AFB and Lackland AFB, Texas. Through his hard work and dedication he retired in 1982 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. While faithfully serving he received several awards recognizing his heroism, including a Joint Service Commendation Medal. Upon his retirement he worked for almost 20 more years at BAMC, Ft. Sam Houston. During this time he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Southwest Texas State University (aka Texas State University).
Shortly after arriving in San Antonio in 1979, he and Cora united with Macedonia Baptist Church. During his spiritual journey he faithfully served as an Usher. Later, their journey would lead them to Resurrection Baptist Church, where they became Greeters.
Robert is survived by his wife Cora, his children, granddaughters, great grandchildren, and numerous family members around the country. All who knew Robert would agree that he lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so they could accomplish more in their lives. Robert Lee Johnson did his best to ensure that his family, friends, and loved ones were given the chance to become better people.
