Sherry Dice was born on August 08,1938 in Baxter Springs, KS to Waneda Belle Miles and Clifton J. Reiter. She was the youngest of two daughters, joining her sister Donna Jo. Her family moved to Vinita, OK when she was very young, and it was there she was raised. She loved Vinita and returned often to visit family and attend high school reunions. While at Vinita High School, she was a Varsity Cheerleader and played point guard all four years on the girls’ basketball team (at five feet tall). In the final months of her Senior year of high school she met a young Airman, the love of her life, Donald Dice and married him. Following her graduation from Vinita High School, she travelled to Selma, Alabama where she and Don began their life together. While stationed at Craig AFB in Alabama, Don and Sherry had their four children, Donald Jr., Sheila, Sharon and Sandra. Their Air Force assignments as a family were in Alabama, Spain and Randolph AFB. Don will tell you that during his tour of Duty in Viet Nam and assorted others, Sherry became Father, Bus-Driver, cook, disciplinarian, medic, etc. She handled those duties with grace and love. She loved being a Military wife and the places she had the opportunity to visit. She was a small-town girl at heart, but she was ready for an adventure.
Don and Sherry were very active in their church home, First Baptist Church Universal City. They visited there for the first time in 2003 and have been there ever since. They have loved and appreciated their church family. They were also involved in a prison ministry, New Found Freedom for many years, travelling numerous times each month to the Giddings State School (a high restriction facility operated by the Texas Youth Commission) to share the word of the Lord with the young men who were incarcerated there. As little as Sherry was, she went in without fear and loved sitting with these young men and ensuring them that God loved them, Christ died for them, and forgiveness was theirs for the asking. For the last thirty years Sherry’s life has been one of servitude and she loved every minute of it.
Sherry is survived by her loving husband of sixty-six years, Don Dice, and their children, Donnie (Kelley Sankey), Sheila (Basel Boatright); Sharon (Tom Peebles) and Sandra (John Sankey). She has eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren who lovingly called her Granny, Granny Gal and Gi. Ask any one of them and they will happily tell you how she positively impacted their life. Sherry’s testimony of faith, love and laughter will live on in the lives of those she knew and the hearts of those she touched. We rejoice in her salvation and new eternal life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Sherry’s life and offer condolences at a Visitation at Colonial Funeral Home (Universal City, TX) on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, from 5-7pm. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 23rd @ 11:00am at First Baptist Church Universal City, TX. Sherry will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. Pallbearers include Chris Dice, John Henry Boatright, Jason Sankey, Caleb Sankey, Dustin Sandoval, Jon Mays and Matt Janes.
