Siaoloau Tualemoso Taufu’a was a woman of unquestionable character, moral judgement with a sharp mind, body, and heart. She was born to the late, honorable Tipaoa Tualemoso AhSoon and Katerina Pine AhSoon on the beautiful islands of Faleasao, Manu’a on February 6, 1961. She grew up smart, beautiful, athletic, and very strong. Many will remember her as a fighter, always fighting for her family’s honor with her mind, her words, and her fists. She was fearless. But behind the rough exterior, she had the biggest heart of gold, so full of love, kindness, and tenderness.
She married the late Simona Logona Taufu’a and traveled alongside him in the United States Coast Guard; living in Louisiana, Texas, Guam, Hawaii and eventually returning to American Samoa where they resided in Kokoland, Tafuna. They have four beautiful children: David, Daniel, Alma and Douglas. There is no doubt, her children received her full love, devotion, care, and support. She raised her four children to understand the importance of family and doing things together just as she was raised so many years ago in Faleasao with her own siblings and parents. She was very active in her children’s lives, and she taught them values by working alongside them. Chores on Saturday were done together followed by a fun activity, beach, theatres, restaurant, or blockbusters. She attended every parent teacher conference, every school trip, every school event, there was no doubt she valued her children greatly.
She worked many odd jobs with all her heart, but her favorite and more long-term jobs were as the Secretary of the Board of Higher Education for the American Samoa Community College where she worked for 11 years. In 2008 she moved with her children to Hawaii where she was the secretary for the Hawaii Army Recruiting Headquarters where she worked for 5 years.
Some say you can’t love anyone more than your children, but they’re wrong. She grand mothered 7 beautiful grandchildren; David II, Celestial, Lillian, Elias, Emma, Matthew, and Amelia. She loved her grandchildren with even greater fervor, passion, and commitment. Each of them had the grandest opportunity to be lullabied by one of her favorite hymns “How Great Thou Art.” They have also had the grandest and latest opportunity of tasting her best dishes and will miss it the most.
As a bold, strong woman her greatest life’s pursuit was in her Christian walk with God. She volunteered at many churches especially in the intercessory prayer ministry. At her home church in American Samoa, the Assembly of God in Kokoland, she was the leader of the Intercessory Prayer Warriors who prayed for the church, the leaders, the nation, and Israel. They were also in charge of doing home visits and donations to the Fatuoaiga home for the elderly. As an avid traveler, she also volunteered her time and services to local churches. In Honolulu, Hawaii with the First Assembly of God, Red Hill she was a part of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, a Sunday School Teacher, and a missionary to India. She also traveled to Fiji, Thailand, and Israel to volunteer and participate in major conferences. Aside from volunteering her services to local churches, she was a full-time supporter of Compassion International, Feed the Children and World Vision where she sponsored 2 children from Africa and 1 child from the Philippines for over 20 years.
On February 13, 2021, Siaoloau left this earth to be with God. She passed away at Brooke’s Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas due to complications of COVID-19. We remember her and celebrate her legacy on March 30, 2021 at The Colonial Funeral Home of Universal City, Texas at 11am and is to be buried at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
