

Mimi was born August 20, 1930 in Fukuoka, Japan, the daughter of Shigeo and Mitsuru (Manabe) Kunihiro. She grew up in Fukuoka and worked at the nearby Itazuke Air Base. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Gary E. Martilla; daughter, Debra Martilla; son, Kevin Martilla; Daughter-in-Law, Linda Martilla; grandson, Erik Martilla; and granddaughter, Regan Martilla, all in the San Antonio area. In Japan, she is survived by her brothers Takami and Haruyuki Kunihiro and sisters Kyoko Kunihiro and Emiko Satake. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Masami Kunihiro.
She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Her greatest expression of love towards her family and friends was through her passion for food. She took great joy in hosting memorable gatherings for all occasions throughout the years. She also displayed her artistic talents in her paintings and sculpted figurines. Her smile and compassion for others will be missed by all.
Final internment will be at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life open house will be from 1-6 pm at her home in Universal City on Saturday, February 12th.
