Born on December 8, 1950, in Henderson, North Carolina, Alice later relocated to Virginia, where she built a life filled with dedication, community, and joy. A skilled and devoted carpenter, she was employed by the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority, where she worked diligently until her well-earned retirement.
Alice was deeply involved in her community, serving as Vice President of the Sewell’s Garden Civic League, where she worked to uplift and support those around her. A woman of strong faith, she was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church on Bute Street for over a decade.
Beyond her work and community service, Alice was known for her vibrant personality and love of life. She was the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan, never missing a game and always cheering them on with passion. She also found joy in bowling, bingo, and trips to the casino, bringing energy and excitement wherever she went.
Alice was preceded in death by her mother, Gladys Brown, and her brothers, James Mitchell and Isaac Mitchell. She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory forever, including her children, James Mitchell, Vanessa Mitchell, and Angela Corbett; her grandchildren, Steven Mitchell, Sabrina Holloway, Guy Mitchell, Antoinette Holloway, Katlin Mitchell, Charvez Mitchell, Alexis Mitchell, Tonnisha Holloway, and Destanee Mitchell; and her four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her best friend of 50 years, Diana Sanderson, who remained by her side through life’s journey.
Alice’s presence will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and strength will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A visitation for Alice will be held Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23462. A HomeGoing Celebration will occur Monday, March 10, 2025 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk, VA 23510.
