Alvin Kay Allen joined his beloved wife, Jo, on December 21st at the age of 91. Al was born in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi to Sidney and Gladys Allen. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up poor on a small farm and spent summers working in the fields of Kansas with his brother Ed. He graduated valedictorian of Enterprise High School and continued his education at Copiah Lincoln Junior College, Mississippi State University and Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. While in the service, “Coyote” completed flight training and became an A4 Pilot serving in the Vietnam War. He spent much of his career in California with deployments around the world before making Virginia Beach his home in the 1970s. He had a second career as Dock Master at Tidewater Yacht Agency in Portsmouth, VA.
Alvin enjoyed gardening, watching baseball, reading the newspaper, cooking steaks “to perfection”, playing solitaire and traveling with his wife. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Schubert (Ron) and Amanda Cahill (Robert) and grandchildren Cal, Sydney and Lila.
He was predeceased by his wife Joannette, sister AnnaRuth, and brothers Ed and Bernice.
A Visitation will be held at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, located at 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, on December 26, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
A Graveside service will take place at Rosewood Memorial Park, located at 631 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462, on December 27, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blood Cancer United or The American Diabetes Association. The family wants to thank Living Well Assisted Living where Al spent his last few years living and being cared for by the loving staff.
