Mrs. Garrett was born in Charlotte, NC and at 6 months of age moved to Norfolk. She attended Lafayette Elementary, Blair Middle and graduated from Maury High School in 1950. She served as a secretary for 45 years. She met the love of her life in church at 9 years of age and married him at the age of 18. She learned to play piano at age 5 and took lessons to perfect her skills and played piano and the pipe organ at Glad Tidings Church, formerly at Spotswood and Colonial Avenue in Norfolk.
Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years Claude B. Garrett Jr.; a sister Linda Foster Absalom; 3 brothers-in-law The Rev. Samuel Alfred Garrett, David Patrick Patrick and William Gerald Garrett; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 10, from 10 to 11am at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
