Cleo was born at home in Gretna, Virginia, May 20, 1935. She married Samuel Jones of Gretna, and had her only child, Sammy, approximately six months after his death due to a work related accident in April 1957. Cleo later married William “Bill” Morris, her loving husband of 57 years, May 14, 1966. Bill’s military service (US Navy) carried the family to Norfolk, Virginia in 1968 and they have lived in the Tidewater area since.
As a youth, she was baptized in the Christian Church in Gretna, and throughout her life attended numerous churches including; Gretna Baptist, Azalea Baptist, and others in Norfolk. Later in life, she spent countless hours watching her favorite televangelists. She graduated from high school in Gretna, started nurses training, however, after the loss of her first husband, turned her attention to family and became a dedicated mother and wife. She especially enjoyed holidays with her family, friends, and the many gatherings at the beach in Sandbridge. Until the last few years, she enjoyed exercising and riding her bike with beloved neighbors around the Cypress Point Golf Course. Cleo loved her immediate family, many relatives, and had a genuine affection and love for her many close friends and neighbors in their Cypress Point neighborhood.
Cleo is survived by: her husband Bill; Sam Jones, son; Christi, daughter-in-law; grandson, Chadwick Jones; granddaughter, Samantha Shore and husband Michael Shore; and great- granddaughter, Addison. She is also survived by her sisters, Patricia North and Eloise Waller; as well as many loving relatives in the Gretna area. Others include, many nephews and cousins; Chuck Waller and wife Dalphine, Kathy and Billy Rhoads, and Tim and Beth Campbell.
After being hospitalized the last month and fighting a courageous battle, she passed away peacefully. She was a believer and now is home with her Lord Jesus Christ.
Visitation and Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 9th, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road in VA Beach with funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
