Dorothea "Dot" Powell

Dorothea D. Powell, 73, passed away peacefully July 27, 2010 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Powell was born June 3, 1937 to the late Carson and Evelyn Durham in Charlotte, N.C. Her heart belonged to the Lord. She was a longtime member of Foundry United Methodist Church. Mrs. Powell loved spending time with her family and friends and loved animals. Dorothea will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her loving brother Charles Durham.

Left to cherish her memory is: three brothers: Pete, Tom, and Mike Durham; son, Brooks Powell, III and wife Marianne; daughter, Cynthia Haislip and husband Doug; three grandchildren: Joshua Haislip, Heather Powell, and Brooks Powell, IV; a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Haislip; and her beloved cat “Lil Bit”.

The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm, Friday, July 30, 2010 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Foundry United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
